IRCC has announced the launch of category-based selection for Express Entry candidates, granting the immigration minister the authority to invite candidates with specific attributes to support Canada's economic goals.

Who is eligible?

Express Entry candidates must have work experience in STEM fields and strong French language proficiency.

When will the targeted draws start?

Draws under the new categories are set to start later this summer but no exact date is available yet.

Do I still need to have an Express Entry profile to be selected if I work in one of the eligible occupations?

Candidates must meet eligibility criteria for Express Entry managed programs.

Will the CRS no longer count for Express Entry?

IRCC will invite candidates without reference to any of the six categories, ranking them and inviting top-ranking candidates to apply for permanent residence.
